A Journey Shaped by Challenges: Born into a lower middle-class family, Aarti's early life was defined by financial constraints and the resilience to rise above them. With a childhood where choosing between lunch and dinner was a reality, she grew up in a family of seven siblings, who worked hard to make ends meet. Despite the hardships, Aarti’s curiosity about creativity sparked a fire within her that wouldn’t be extinguished.
Spark That Ignited: A Knitter's Passion Born at 18: How a fascination with the craft of knitting set Aarti on a creative journey. At the tender age of 18, Aarti picked up her first needles, intrigued by the beautiful art created from simple yarn. But the road wasn’t smooth—her initial attempts were far from perfect. Life’s responsibilities soon took over as she pursued her education, embarked on a career, and balanced family duties. Yet, the flame of knitting remained alive in her heart, waiting for the right moment to return.
Knitting Through Life's Breaks: When life paused her passion, Aarti found strength in embracing the challenge. Life took Aarti on a different path for many years—graduation, a job at the Provident Fund Department, marriage, and two beautiful daughters. Yet, the passion for knitting never left her soul. Despite a 14-year hiatus, she reignited her passion with even greater determination. Alongside her job, she also took to painting, adorning the homes of family and friends with her beautiful artwork.
Finding Inspiration in Unlikely Places: A chance encounter on a train changed the course of Aarti’s knitting journey forever. One day, while on a train, Aarti noticed a woman knitting effortlessly. She approached her, only to be met with resistance. But persistence paid off, and eventually, a partnership blossomed. Aarti helped the woman sell her woollen products, and in return, learned valuable knitting techniques. This friendship transcended the transactional and evolved into mutual support—a pivotal moment that allowed Aarti to grow her craft.
Turning Passion into a Purpose: From informal sales to formalized collections, Aarti’s journey comes full circle. After decades of informal knitting and painting, and with her daughters now grown and married, Aarti found the space and time to pursue her passion fully. She and her husband, who had built a Provident Fund consultancy together, ensured that the responsibilities of life were in good hands. Now, Aarti was free to focus on her creative journey, turning it into something larger—something that could reach many more people.
